There are still many ways to savor the beauty of Indonesia, even for those who cannot travel. And in these hard times, we should consider the alternative options that allow us to learn and explore without having to step outside our homes. Therefore, we recommend these awe-inspiring travel destinations around Indonesia for you to add to your future travel itinerary:

1 | Indonesia’s Treasure: Bali

Who doesn’t know Bali? An island filled with magnificence, Bali is known to the world as Indonesia's paradise. Various attractions, good amenities, and great accessibility attract tourists from all over the world to Bali. Bali’s beautiful blue beaches, cultural richness, and natural beauty are the factors that make the tourists want to return again and again.

Over time, Bali has become increasingly famous and has aptly been nicknamed “The Island of the Gods”, which is enough to illustrate the natural beauty and beautiful culture of harmony on this island. During celebrations such as Galungan, Bali decorates itself with various ornaments. One of the most striking ornaments is "Penjor", strands of tall yellow palm leaves, which adorn the front of the temple and are also set up along the roads. Besides being a unique sight, “Penjor” also serves an altar of worship for the Balinese.

2 | Travel in Style: Discover the cleanest village in the world

Located in Bali, Penglipuran Village is a traditional village in Bangli Regency. This village has become one of the famous destinations in Bali because of its authentic appearance and its preserved traditions based around the Tri Hita Karana concept. Penglipuran Village has been named as one of the cleanest villages in the world along with Giethoorn in the Netherlands and Mawlynnong in India and has also received several national and international awards.

Due to the rampant outbreak of COVID-19, Penglipuran Village has taken some precautionary measures by prioritizing cleanliness and urges the people to wash their hands regularly and follow the government's instructions.

3 | Luxury Escape: Enjoy the Batak Legacy’s tropical living experience

Ever wondered what it feels like to live in a Sumatran jungle?  Batak Legacy, a homestay with a typical North-Sumatran building, offers you this rare experience. This homestay is a 150-year-old Toba Batak building with carvings and paintings featuring four lions. Initially, this building was located in the middle of Lake Toba, North Sumatra and was later transported to North Bali. Traditionally, a house of Batak Toba consists of three floors: a basement for livestock, a ground floor for family members, and an attic for storing supplies and valuables. The word 'Legacy' in this building means 'Kubu', a Balinese word for home. Batak Legacy was introduced to the public 2 years ago. The owner Ervina Tee, along with her husband, did some restoration work and added various rooms to the Batak Toba house. With the traditional architectural style of the Batak Toba house and the tropical feel of Bali, coupled with a private swimming pool made of natural stone, this place is guaranteed to create unforgettable memories.

Equipped with sanitary facilities, the main bedroom of this building is on the 2nd floor. The bathroom, the dining room, and the kitchen are located on the 1st floor. Visitors can enjoy breakfast with a beautiful Balinese rice-terrace view. Guests who stay overnight will be spoiled by a natural-stone swimming pool and shower that makes the guests feel like they are bathing in a river.

4 | Travel for Food: Hutan Kota by Plataran

After experiencing the bliss of Bali, let's get to the heart of Jakarta and explore the latest culinary hotspot: Hutan Kota by Plataran. We agree that the taste and presentation of a meal is something that attracts people, but a complete dining experience is not just about that. It involves all the five senses and Hutan Kota by Plataran surely offers that full experience.

The 3X (eXotism, eXperience, and eXcellence) philosophy of Plataran, a hospitality group in Indonesia, has succeeded in creating a new atmosphere through Hutan Kota by Plataran, a unique dining experience in the middle of the city forest among the tall skyscrapers of Jakarta.

Presented for the first time during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Hutan Kota was used by President Joko Widodo to entertain the VIP guests. After the biggest sports party in Asia was over, Plataran was, through a rigorous process, chosen to be the city forest manager of the Bung Karno Sports Complex (GBK) Senayan by the Bung Karno Sports Center Complex Management Center (PPKGBK). Since then, the city forest was officially named Hutan Kota by Plataran.

5 | Travel for Nature: The Kumara Gardens

After Jakarta, let’s explore the South Tangerang city, where creativepreneur Soraya Cassandra, her husband Dhira Narayana, and her two younger siblings, run the Kumara Gardens. The garden, which is located on Situ Gintung, Island III in South Tangerang, is a learning garden dedicated to educating the city dwellers on how to apply environmental concepts.

Before establishing the Kumara Gardens in 2016, Sandra and Dhira studied sustainable living in Imogiri, Yogyakarta. They study permaculture, agriculture with a sustainable and permanent order of living. This concept emphasizes design, agricultural planning, and integration, along with the implementation of agricultural practices that are applied to the 1,000 m2 garden.

This sociopreneur utilized abandoned land and converted it into productive land. Apart from a composting house, Kumara Gardens also has a food garden and a food forest area that is used for three main programs: education, seed sales, and edible landscaping. You can check out their Instagram and learn more about these programs.
